Prevention of urinary tract infections has become a major focus in hospitals and Long Term Care, LTC, facilities. In an effort to focus awareness on preventing urinary tract infections, a five letter acronym has been adopted, CAUTI. CAUTI stands for Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection. Facilities have implemented CAUTI prevention and awareness training. By educating clinicians on the infections that can be attributed to catheters, the clinic hopes that UTIs will be reduced through proper infection control and limiting the use of indwelling, foley, catheters.
